For a battery to charge properly, it’s very important that the battery fluid level is above the lead plates inside the battery. The negative (black) cable from the charger should be attached to the negative terminal on the car’s battery and the positive (red) cable coming from the charger should be attached to the positive terminal on the car battery.
If possible, to avoid overheating charge the battery on the lowest amp setting that the charger has. This is the safest way of charging. The down side to this is that it will take longer to charge the battery. It’s also important that when you work on the car battery and you are charging it, that you must avoid smoking.
