Socks have a wide selection. However, there are selections that are ageless and one of them is knee sock. Knee socks have already stayed in the global clothesline for good. In fact, they are still giving influence even to the modern day dressing up.Knee socks otherwise known as turn-over-top socks were first cited in the early 19th century. However, it is believed that they have already existed since 18th century. Nevertheless, they became famous in the 20th century when Baden Powell and his Boy Scouts have habitually used them.

They were commonly worn in Britain. Little boys match their knee socks with their short pants. In America, these socks are worn with knickers. They are common among older affluent boys.

France, Germany and Italy followed the trend. In 1970’s, other countries started wearing them. In New Zealand, winter secondary school uniforms are completed by knee socks. Other countries like South Africa, Australia and Japan have joined the trend.

Up to the present time, knee socks are still popular not only as sport or activity uniform but as a fashion statement. Men, women, girls and boys use knee socks to express themselves. Present selections are made wider and colorful. In fact, they range from solid and plain colors to pastel colors with distinctive prints on them.

Joints are the places in the human body where two bones meet. When pain occurs in joints, it causes inability in carrying out normal movements, which can cause a lot of anxiety. Joint pain is a common complaint often associated with the process of aging. Unusual exertion or overuse of joints can cause body joint pain.

Of the various joint pains, pain in the knee joint is the most common. This is because of two main reasons – the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is a weight bearing joint. The knee is a joint with three bones. This joint is surrounded by a capsule with ligaments strapping the joint. Meniscus is a thickened cartilage pad that acts like cushions of the joint and Synovial fluid lubricates the joint. This complex design of the knee joint makes it quite unstable. The second factor that makes the knee joint very susceptible to injuries is that the knee bears the entire weight of the body with every step that we take. Treating knee joint pains depends on the cause of the pain.

Injuries causing knee pain

Ligament injury from a trauma or a fall can cause injury to ligaments on the inner and outer portion of the knee, and within the knee. There is immediate pain and swelling and it needs urgent medical attention

Meniscus tears – during rapid and sharp movements or rotations of knee the meniscus can be torn. This is very common with sports persons. Meniscal tears are often associated with locking of the knee joint or an unstable sensation in the joint.

Your knee may be screaming with pain. You can choose to suffer through the pain until it finally subsides or you could learn to just live with it. Or you could explore alternative therapies or even surgery. Whatever you decide to do, a good knee brace can help!

A knee brace may conjure up images of metal rods, clanking metal and limited mobility, but today’s knee braces are lightweight and some weigh-in at a mere 16 ounces. Many knee braces are created using 21st century materials that make them strong, durable and effective.

A knee brace can be used for mild to moderate support. It can be made from all kinds of products, including foam, plastic, metal and elastic. Most varieties are the “clip on” kind and many are made with straps and Velcro tabs for easy fastening and adjustment. A good knee brace will support not only the kneecap but also the entire knee joint. This will give you a moderate range of motion while your knee heals from whatever is bothering it.

A knee brace can be bought from your local drug store or the nearest discount chain. The more expensive brands can be purchased at any medical supply store. Where you buy your knee brace depends on what kind you need and how many bells and whistles it comes with. Your doctor should help you decide which type of knee brace is best. Take his or her advice. Don’t mess around with your joints or you may end up with more trouble than you bargained for. Many fresh injuries require specific measures for healing to occur: your knee may have to remain stabilized or immobilized during the healing process.
