If you are in a business that involves the distribution, storage or transport of heavy machinery, then, you need the right logistics partner at your side because such a service can make or break your business. If you are a supplier of such machinery, then, overnight distribution, storage, supervising, loading and unloading services are necessary.

Fortunately, there are hundreds of heavy machinery moving services all over the country. Even so, only a few of these services are totally reliable in their services. When you are in a business that depends on quality service, then, you too would expect to be associated with support services that deliver the same quality and precision that you provide.

Here are a few tips to help you pick quality heavy machinery moving services:

Go by their reputation – A tried and tested company is a surefire way of identifying industry leaders in the niche. In addition to depending on the general opinion regarding the company, you must also make specific enquiries about the company concerned.

Flexibility – Logistics is not just about moving things from one place to another. There are different services involved and as companies become more demanding, logistics is also becoming more customer oriented. In fact, logistics involves freight forwarding, customs clearance, pre-delivery processing, storage facilities, heavy machinery moving, insurance, customs consultation and supervision, to name a few services. When a company is able to offer you a variety of options, you then have the freedom to prioritize according to money or budget. It is necessary to select a heavy machinery moving company that offers you different options or is even ready to offer you customized solutions. It is important that your logistics partner can deliver your goods, regardless of the demands of distance and time.

Network – A wide network is a very helpful thing, even if your company is too young to require such a network. In case you need emergency machine delivery services, companies that have a wide network will be able to make the delivery using available resources or even by depending on member companies.

Quality service – a company that goes the extra mile to make their clients feel safe and important is the kind of company you want to work with. If you are associated with a heavy machinery moving company that has vehicles that are old and broken down, then, delays in delivery cannot be ruled out. Dependable transportation services, great public relations personnel and complete logistics solutions are important if you want to enjoy complete peace of mind regarding the delivery of your equipment.

John Deere or Kubota — Which Tractor is Best for You?

The most common question I hear from people looking to buy their first tractor always concerns comparing John Deere tractors and Kubota tractors. I hear the same questions from people looking to buy large tractors, small tractors, new tractors and used tractors.

When it comes to buying a John Deere tractor or a Kubota tractor, there are several factors you need to consider.

A lot of the “facts” you will hear are based more on emotions than on any real facts. It’s a lot like trying to decide whether to buy a Ford or a Chevrolet — or trying to decide whether to buy a Mercedes or a BMW — everyone has their favorites.

With cars there are lots of data available about the reliability, frequency of repair, etc. But even with all of this available information, most people don’t rely on this information when deciding which car to buy.

They make their decision based almost entirely on emotion. Emotions plays a big part in selecting a tractor also, but hopefully not as much so.

Bottom line when you’re considering buying a new tractor: If you’re looking for a small tractor or compact tractor for yard work, landscaping work or to use on a small farm, you will probably be happier with a new Kubota tractor. Kubota makes a great and reliable small diesel tractor.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a farm tractor to do heavy work, you can’t go wrong with a John Deere tractor. John Deere tractors hold their value and last forever. As their motto says, “Nothing runs like a Deere.” John Deere tractors are made to do heavy duty work — whether on a farm or on commercial work.

The compact hydraulic excavator can be a tracked or wheeled vehicle with an approximate operating weight of 13,300 pounds. Normally, it includes a standard backfill blade and features an independent boom swing. The compact hydraulic excavator is also known as a mini excavator.

A compact hydraulic excavator is different from other types of heavy machinery in the sense that all movement and functions of the machine are accomplished through the transfer of hydraulic fluid. The work group and blade are activated by hydraulic fluid acting upon hydraulic cylinders. The rotation and travel functions are also activated by hydraulic fluid powering hydraulic motors.

Most types of compact hydraulic excavators have three assemblies – house, undercarriage, and the work group.

The house structure contains the compartment for the operator, engine compartment, hydraulic pump and also the distribution components. The house structure is attached to the top of the undercarriage via swing bearing. Along with the work group, the house is able to rotate upon the undercarriage without limit due to a hydraulic distribution valve that supplies oil to the undercarriage components.

The undercarriage of compact excavators consists of rubber or steel tracks, drive sprockets, rollers, idlers, and associated components and structures. The undercarriage is also home to the house structure and the work group.

The work group consists of the boom, dipper or arm, and attachment. It is connected to the front of the house structure via a swinging frame that allows the work group to be hydraulically pivoted left or right in order to achieve offset digging for trenching parallel with the tracks.

A trip to your local tire company is an excellent way to learn which tractor tires are superior, and what’s on sale. These stores employ trained professionals to help you choose the tire that’s ideal for your needs. It’s possible that they’ll be able to locate the exact tire you’re looking for in a used tire.

In order to get help from people tell them what you are going to do with your tractor. It may help to save you some hard-earned money if it is known exactly what your tractor will be doing on your farm, since tractor tires can vary so much in price. Some varieties are tires with deep lugs, diamond treads, and typical agricultural tires. Each of these work for a variety of uses.

Therefore it is extremely important that you get the right kind, and your rear tires do most of the tractor’s work. The odds of getting stuck in the mud during your inaugural tractor ride will be reduced depending on how large the rear tires are.
On modern tractors, however, the tires are likely to all be the same size. When you are thinking of buying tractor tires, the important thing is to find a tire at an affordable price, that suits your tractor

It’s also possible to buy used tires at some tire shops. Be sure to examine thoroughly any used tire suggested by the salesperson. You’ll need to check out the tread, and scrutinize the sidewalls for damage or imperfections. Because of the expense of truck tires, money can be saved by purchasing used tires.

Forklifts can be bought new or used from many different sources. It is vital that forklift buyers know exactly what they are looking for before they purchase a forklift. Several factors need to be considered before the buyer makes a decision. The price of the forklift and the main tasks it will be used for are two of the most important factors in choosing which forklift to buy.

New forklifts generally cost at least $15,000. Electric forklifts are generally more expensive at the time of purchase but they save money in the long run. A forklift for sale with an internal combustion engine may cost less to buy but must be refueled often. The common price range for a standard 5,000-pound forklift is between $16,000 and $30,000 depending on the feature offered.

Forklifts with greater lifting capacity can cost much more, forklifts that can carry 35,000 pounds will cost at least a hundred thousand dollars. Used forklifts cost significantly less but are still expensive. A used forklift can cost as little as half as much as a comparably equipped new one, but may need more repairs, and so the money that a person saves when buying a used forklift may need to be spent later on repairs. It is important to buy a used forklift with a warranty in case it does need repairs.

What the forklift is used for is also important. Some forklifts are made exclusively for indoor use, while others are equipped to ride over rugged uneven terrain outdoors. Forklifts all have different lifting capabilities as well. When looking for a forklift for sale it is important for buyers to keep their own needs in mind and buy the best possible forklift for their requirements.

Buying a forklift can be a daunting process. With so many models on the market and so many uses for them, it is often difficult to find the perfect one. Forklift shoppers should be sure to keep their budget and needs in mind when finding purchasing a forklift.

A crane, which is equipped with a derrick or tower, is used to lower and lift materials with the use of pulleys and cable. Heavy equipment manufacturers and the construction industry use cranes in various activities connected with their process.

Cranes used in the construction industry are mostly temporary structures either mounted on a vehicle which is built for the specific purpose of carrying the crane, or fixed to the ground. Cranes may be controlled by various methods such as radio control, infrared control or a built in control station using a push button pendant or by an operator sitting in the cab of the vehicle.

A standardized hand signal is used between the person operating the controls and the workers in the ground. Bigger installations use radio communication for this purpose. Loads can be positioned with great precision using such signals by experienced crew of the crane. Crane vessels or ships often carry the largest revolving cranes. For more info visit www.just-cranes.info

It is a surprise to note from the carved stone relief in Haterii’s tomb of 1st century Rome, which depicts a monument being built with a sort of crane, that cranes were used in medieval shipyards and ports in Poland.

The various types of cranes in common use are railroad cranes, mobile cranes, telescopic cranes, tower cranes, truck-mounted cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, loader cranes, floating cranes, gantry cranes and aerial cranes.

A crane mounted on a railroad car or on a flatcar is known as railroad crane. Mobile cranes are the most basic and common type of crane, which as the name implies, can be carried easily to any place. Tower cranes are fixed to the ground. These are mostly used in buildings for the best combination of lifting capacity and height. A telescopic crane is capable of lifting lower capacity but can reach greater heights.

To provide greater mobility, a crane will be mounted on a carrier truck and is known as a truck-mounted crane. Whereas the rough terrain cranes, which are mounted on four rubber tires, are capable of pick and carry operations in rough terrain. Crawler cranes are mounted on a set of tracks with an undercarriage and have better stability and mobility.

Since asphalt is a more specialized material than concrete, doing asphalt driveway repair is a bit more complicated. The materials you need to do this repair are not as familiar as those you would need for repairing concrete. You won’t be able to use hot asphalt unless you go through the daunting task of collecting bits and pieces of asphalt, heating them in a furnace and then spreading the asphalt yourself. The result of this is often bumpy and not as smooth as a professional job. Of course, there are asphalt contractors you can get to resurface your driveway.

If you want to do the job yourself, you will have to look at filling in the cracks and holes in your driveway. The size of the cracks does play a part in the proper materials for the job. A crack filler is appropriate for cracks that are less than 1/2 inch wide. For larger cracks, you will need to use a product called asphalt cold-patch. You can buy this by the bag or the can but you should only use it when the temperature is higher than 50º F.

Pull the weeds out of the cracks if there are any growing there and clean the area of all dirt and debris. You may need to apply weed killer to keep the weeds from growing back again. For deep cracks, fill it to within 1/4 inch of the surface with sand. Make sure you tamp down the sand to have an even area. Then you can apply the asphalt repair compound and allow it to cure. After this, you do need to apply a sealant to the driveway.

In the 1950s, Caterpillar added many new product lines aimed specifically at the construction side of its business interests.Rubber-tired self-propelled scrapers were introduced, along with track-type loaders in the early 1950s.

By 1959, the company released its first rubber-tired front-end loader, the model 944A Traxcavator. The loader was first unveiled to the companys board of directors as the T101, at a special demonstration at its Phoenix Proving Ground in February 1956.

Though not a large machine, its standard bucket capacity of 2 cubic yards put it right in contention with a host of similar-sized machines from other construction equipment manufacturers.

The unit’s four- wheel-drive drivetrain, rigid frame and rear steering wheels were design features well accepted in the industry.

Caterpillar was looking for the perfect sized wheel loader design to get its latest product line off to a good sales start, and found it in the 944A.

But the model 944A was just the tip of the iceberg as far as Caterpillar was concerned. In 1960, the company introduced two more rigid frame wheel loaders to keep the 944A company.

The model 922A was slightly smaller, carrying a 1 1/4-cubic-yard bucket. The other model, the 966A was larger than the 944A. It was equipped with a 2 3/4-cubic-yard bucket. All three of these loaders were sized for general contracting work. Big quarry and mining wheel loaders they were not.

But Caterpillar was taking a cautious approach to this new market. The limited number of model types fielded in the first few years allowed the company time to gain market share.

It is important to inspect a used excavator when buying one. This is because a used machine can be in bad condition and it defeats the purpose of saving money if after buying the used machine only to find out later that one has to spend a lot on repairs. Inspection of a used excavator is normally carried out in two stages. The first stage is a physical visual inspection and the second stage is performance inspection. In performance inspection, the excavator is started up and performed specific functions for evaluation. What are the main things to look out for during the visual inspection? The main components to inspect are:

1) The Engines – When inspecting the engine look out for leakages or soot. The present of any indicates that the excavator engine may need overhauling.

2) The Cab, Stick, Boom and bucket – When inspecting this look out for welds not from the factory as this indicates repair done. On the boom and stick make sure they are not bend or twisted. Inspect the pivot points for signs of wear, which requires replacement. Check the bucket to see that it is not dented or damaged.

3) Track and under carriage – Track inspection involved looking at how much wear there is and the condition of the links joining the individual metal plates of the tracks. This is to find out if the tracks need replacement. Other things to inspect are the rollers and sprockets.

In performance inspection, the excavator’s engine is started up. At this stage lookout for any considerable soot or smoke discharge. Any of these further indicates that the engine needs overhauling. Once warmed up, the machine is put through a series of paces. This is to test the hydraulic system by moving the boom, dipper and bucket. The condition of the hydraulic cylinders should also be inspected at this stage. Next the swing gears and bearings are checked. A well working swing system should be able to rotate the machine top structures smoothly. It also has little deflection and is able to start and stop accurately. Finally, the drive system of the excavator is inspected. To do this, the excavator is driven over a short distance. If the drives are working well the excavator should run straight. Therefore by carrying out a proper inspection the actual buying cost of the used excavator, where the repair cost are taken into consideration can be determined and more importantly one can make the right buying decision.

Powerful crawler equipment with a blade is called a bulldozer. Even though any heavy engineering vehicle is known by the term bulldozer, practically the term refers only to a tractor with dozer blade.

Earlier tractors were used to plough the fields and the first bulldozer was adapted from this tractor. During the First World War a bulldozer was used as an armoured tank because of its versatility in grounds which were soft.

A big thick metal plate is fixed on the front of the bulldozers for use in earthmoving jobs, raising dams and digging canals. As the tractor advances, the blade in front removes layers of soil. To move coal in the coalmines, to move large boulders or cut tree stumps various specialized blades are used. Earlier, the driver used to sit on top of the bulldozers, which lacked a cabin. When powered down bulldozers were introduced in the 1930’s it became the excavation equipment preferred by contractors.

When equipment was needed to execute large-scale earth works, several bigger models were manufactured by various engineering firms. These machines were noisy, large and powerful and that’s where it got its name bulldozer.

More powerful engines, better tracks, more reliable drive tracks, raised cabins and instead of the usual cable operations, hydraulic arms were some of the important improvements included in the bulldozer development. More precise blade manipulation was made possible by hydraulic systems. To loosen soils which were rocky, or for pavement bread-up, a ripper claw was also added to bulldozers.

Throughout the world, these durable and tough machines are used by construction units of the military, they are also the preferred equipment for civil construction. Some of the other uses of bulldozers include demolition of enemy structures and clearing mines.

The tracks on the bulldozers give good hold on ground and easy mobility over rough terrain. In order to prevent it sinking in muddy or sandy ground, the wide tracks help the distribution of the weight of the bulldozer over large area.
