Paintball is one of the most exciting sports around, but it can also be quite dangerous if you aren’t careful. Most people don’t associate the high risk level involved with their favorite pastime; however there are thousands of injuries every year. There also many cases of vandalized property as well as injured animals. Whenever you are playing with your paintball gun, you have to remember that you are shooting paint at incredibly high velocities, so safety measures should always be taken.
1. Always make sure you have the proper equipment needed for safe play. People often get caught up in the game and mistakes can happen, so you’ll want to make sure that you are physically protected from harm. Always be sure to wear a safety mask or some goggles and cover as much of your skin up as possible.
2. Animals often bear the brunt of unnecessary injuries from paintball guns. If you’re playing in an environment where there are wild animals or pets around, be incredibly careful not to shoot at them because it is likely to result in an incredibly painful injury or in some cases death.
3. Make sure that you are using your paintball gun in an appropriate, designated environment. You should always avoid public places. Ideally, it should only be played in designated fields or secluded areas. This way you can easily avoid accidentally hitting pedestrians, cars and homes.
4. Do not accelerate the speed of you paintball guns to more than 300 feet per second. Anything higher is dangerous for other players and should be avoided.
5. When you are playing an actual game, its best to choose a referee to designate the beginning and the end of the game. Players often get catch up in the competition and you can avoid unnecessary injury by placing a set time limit on each game.
6. Once you’ve finish using your paintball gun, always make sure the safety is on and be sure to unload the gun before putting it away.
